Insurance Quotes
Should
I.. or Should I Not...do a self quote on the
Internet?
The
answer is when it comes to really preparing for, and possibly
making a purchase (really a policy offer), you should
definitely NOT use this method.
The
reasons are not really apparent but they boil down to this:
There are many fine points to a policy and many components. One
easily seen one is the deductible period. Is it a calendar
year, or is it a policy year? This could make a difference,
particularly if you are looking to obtain a policy in the last
quarter of a year.
Now
that may be an item most readers know about, but there are
many, many others.
Chances are quite great that the company you
are getting an online quote from will not explain the various
options (particularly if they don't offer them all). You'll get
an honest quote FOR WHAT THEY ARE SELLING but is it really what
you would want if you knew your choices? Probably
not.
So.. the answer is to work with a live agent,
and ideally one that works in and knows your specific area.
This agent should be able and willing to meet with you in
person if that's your desire. And after a sale, he or she
should be available and not pass you off to the great 1-800,
“Press 1 for....” world.
Health insurance is the most service oriented
of the major 3 insurance groups: Health, Car, and Life. In life
insurance, if a policy needs to be paid, there's no questions
about deductibles, etc. It's either due to be paid or it's not;
Car insurance has a few more options, but in health, there's
such an infinite variety of possible claims and coverages you
should be working closely with an agent that you feel
comfortable with.
Does this infer that online quotes are a
total waste of your time? Certainly not. In fact, it's a good
idea to explore as you can get a “feel” for what cost ranges
are; possibly learn some of the terms.
