Dental Insurance - - Dental Plans
Let's start on the same page with some common understandings. There's "dental insurance" where you have a
procedure, often have a deductible, and then some kind of co-pay. The insurance company could pay a percent after
the deductilbe and you pay a percent. For the most part, pretty standard "insurance" formats, but most of the
dental plans have caps, max benefits available in a year, etc.
One such very good company offering plans of this type is MEDICO, and they offer a range of max
benefits of $1000, $1500, and $2000 in a year. The most significant benefit in working with this company is that NO
NETWORK or provider restrictions are applied. You can see any provider you want, as long as they are a licensed
dentist. You will be reimbursed a percentage of the Usual and Customary fee for that procedure. Of course, if you
are looking for major work like crowns, bridges, etc. you must be aware of the plan limitations. There is no online
web site for MEDICO, but contact us to receive a color brochure, quote, etc.
Another popular stucture is the Dental Discount plan model. Here you pay a premium to join the
discount plan, and when you go to have a service, you pay for that service at the published discount rate.
Most of these plans have no waiting period, but may limit the services they cover. Nearly all have specific
and individual dentists you must use to get the discounted rate, and to a large extent, these are newer dental
practices offering this service to build their practice. Those firms that are well established and where you may
need to wait a week to get anything other than an emergency appointment just does not need to offer discounts to
get you in the door. What you may see published on the internet may not be the rate in effect when you plan to get
your appointment so you always should check.
There are many Dental Discount plans, and we are happy to represent one of the major Dental Discount Plan
Brokerages and you can see the availability, as well as enroll, by clicking
here.
The Third Model is the HMO model, and these are relatively rare and unique, but we are very
pleased to offer you one, and it's no "slouch" or unknown as it's underwritten by Met Life, the "Snoopy" people.
It's only available in CA, TX, and FL.. and we're here in FL. This is a true CO PAY plan, and the plan documents
clearly state what the CO PAY is, and nearly every procedure is covered from simple cleanings and extractions on up
to dentures. There's no waiting period, but the major limitation as an HMO is that you must use plan providers. You
can obtain full information, and even enroll on line, by CLICKING HERE. This
will take you immediate to an enroll page, but hit the "HOME" tab at the left for general information. Then explore
the page for benfits. Our suggestion is that you obtain the provider list, then go visit your provider of
choice (usually the closest) and get a feel for that provider office prior to enrolling. Most dentists will be
happy to discuss their services, practices, etc. We've found that your out of pocket expenses for this plan
are in the range of 30-45% of what you would pay without insurance.
In summary, we offer you 3 models. We do this because each person is different and may have different
preferences. All plans are good, none is Perfect as "the perfect plan" would cover everything for nearly zero prem
and zero out of pocket. Look at all 3, call us if you have any questions.
