Are You A Victim of “The 100% Covered” Myth in your health insurance?

In the very competitive world of Health Insurance, it's unfortunate but many agents, as well as many companies make statements and claims, that while legal due to fine print disclaimers, are very misleading.

They get away with this because they know that unless their policy holder really reads the policy or has a need to use the benefits, they will not get caught.

Now let's face it.. if you have had a policy, have you really read it? Probably not. Boring stuff! Plus with all the fine print, who can really wade through it.!

On the other hand, only a small percentage of health insurance policies really get called on to make claims.

Believe it or not, this is a regulated industry and ALL advertising and brochures must be run through the regulatory agencies and every insurance company has a compliance department.

But it doesn't prevent the emphasis on certain terms.

As an experienced and senior agent I repeatedly hear clients (of other companies) tell me.. Oh, I'm covered at 100% for that, or this.

If it's a benefit.. the REAL story may be “Covered at 100% for up to $________, then deductible applies, or maybe copay applies”.

It may be “Covered at 100% for the first 3 doctors visits per year, and thereafter, subject to XXXX>

Or it may be “Covered at 100% for the first X months”.... or it may be “After policy is in force X or Y months or years, (procedure) is covered at 100%.

The trouble is... so many people only hear “Covered at 100%” and don't ask (in a presentation) or read the “rest of the story”. On a pure internet sale, most people don't know to find this fine print, and there's no one to ask! This is but one reason it's best to deal with a live, living agent and preferably one local who you can meet, see, find where they live and they know it. Good agents have nothing to hide; other agents hide behind email addresses, post office boxes, 800 numbers, etc. Your personal agent is as important to you as the policy. Ask that agent if they are covered by errors and omissions insurance just to be certain.. and in closing.. get EVERYTHING in writing.. and read it.
